Grammar Lab

Get AI-generated grammar explanations tailored to your reading material in yomeru.ai.

The Grammar Lab is yomeru.ai's flagship learning tool. Give it any Japanese sentence and it returns a full analysis: a color-coded structure diagram, grammar point explanations, nuance notes, related patterns, and detailed vocabulary — all generated by our AI in real time.

Free for everyone

You do not need an account to try Grammar Lab. The public page is open to everyone — analyze any sentence right now.

What You Get

Every Grammar Lab analysis includes:

Structure diagram — A visual breakdown of the sentence, color-coded by function. Particles, verbs, nouns, and other components each get their own color so you can see how the sentence fits together at a glance.

Context translation — A natural English translation with notes explaining why that translation was chosen, not just what the words mean literally.

Grammar points — Each grammatical pattern in the sentence is identified and explained, with notes on formality, common usage, and potential pitfalls.

Nuance and usage notes — Subtle meaning differences, tone, and when you would (or would not) use this structure in real conversation.

Related patterns — Similar grammar that is worth comparing, so you can build a web of connected knowledge.

Vocabulary enrichment — Detailed vocabulary for every word in the sentence: kanji details, compound words, stroke order, and example sentences pulled from dictionaries.

How to Use Grammar Lab

The public Grammar Lab page works without logging in — just paste any Japanese sentence and get a full breakdown.

Our AI works in real time. You will see a progress indicator as it searches references, analyzes the sentence structure, and generates the explanation. The full guide streams in as it is created.

Get context-aware explanations

Because the AI knows what you are reading, it references your story's character names, plot details, and surrounding dialogue. Instead of a generic grammar explanation, you get one that is tied to the scene you are looking at.

Deep Dive

After viewing any Grammar Lab analysis, you can keep going. The Deep Dive feature lets you ask follow-up questions about anything in the guide: "Explain this pattern in simpler terms", "Show me more examples of this conjugation", or "How does this compare to a similar grammar point?" The AI continues the conversation with the original sentence as context.

The 30 Pre-Built Examples

The public page includes 30 curated sentences that cover a wide range of grammar. They are color-coded by level so you can find something appropriate whether you are just starting out or working through advanced material:

  • Beginner (green) — Core grammar: particles, basic verb forms, simple sentence structures.
  • Intermediate (amber) — Compound sentences, conditional forms, honorific language.
  • Advanced (pink) — Literary constructions, nuanced conjunctions, formal written Japanese.
